I'm not reflexively disgusted by homosexuality like many (or most) heterosexual men, so I don't have the same degree of certainty that integration of homosexuals can't be done somehow without degrading readiness, but I'm also not sure that it can. I'm more concerned about the sustainability of having females leading small units in the combat arms. I think a big reason young men were ever willing to deal with the chickenshit of military life and the rigors of combat training/potential for war was to demonstrate their manhood. Difficult to convince yourself that you've transitioned from boy to man when you show up to your unit subordinate to a woman, no matter how high-speed and capable a leader she happens to be. Maybe the male youth of today have transcended such primitive concerns, but I suspect the type that wants to kick down doors and shoot people in the face aren't so easy to socialize in this manner.
